Tattoo pain varies depending on placement and your personal tolerance. Areas with more muscle and fat — like the upper arm, thigh, or calf — tend to be more comfortable. Bony areas like the ribs, spine, or ankle can feel sharper. At our Macclesfield tattoo studio, we work at a pace that keeps you comfortable, and we are always happy to take breaks if you need them. Most clients tell us the anticipation is worse than the actual experience.

The surface of a tattoo typically heals within two to three weeks, but the deeper layers of skin continue settling for up to six weeks. During the first week, you will need to keep the area clean, apply a thin layer of aftercare cream, and avoid soaking it in water. We provide detailed written aftercare instructions after every session and are always available by phone if you have concerns during the healing process.

Yes — cover-up tattoos are one of our specialties. Our artists have years of experience designing cover-ups that use the existing tattoo as part of the new composition rather than simply trying to blast over it with black ink. We will assess your old tattoo during a free consultation and show you what is realistically possible. Many clients are amazed at what we can achieve.

We are primarily an appointment-only tattoo studio to ensure every client gets the time and attention they deserve. However, we do occasionally have same-day slots available, especially for smaller pieces. Your best bet is to call ahead or message us on Facebook to check availability. If you are passing our Macclesfield studio and want to pop in for a chat, you are always welcome.

Eat a solid meal a couple of hours before your appointment — having food in your system helps with pain tolerance and prevents light-headedness. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours beforehand, and wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area being tattooed. If it is a long session, bring snacks and entertainment. We will take care of everything else.

Absolutely. We never tattoo a design you have not approved. Your artist will share the custom design with you ahead of your session — usually a day or two before — so you can request changes. We want you to be 100% happy with the artwork before we put it on your skin permanently. Revisions are a normal part of the process and are included in your booking.

Yes. Carpe Diem Tattoo Studio is fully licensed by Cheshire East Council and operates under strict hygiene regulations. All three of our artists are licensed practitioners, and our studio carries full public liability and professional indemnity insurance. We use single-use needles, autoclave-sterilised equipment, and medical-grade disinfectants. Your safety is never compromised.
